I have to admit, this was out of my element to try something different by adding an outside pocket to the quilted tote bag. A friend of mine gave me bags & bags full of sample upholstery fabrics, not one was the same. I found a sunflower print, cut them to size around the sunflower. I used 2 of them as the pockets for the tote bag. I quilted around the flower and added borders which you can't see but only the top. I also found 3yds of the orange/yellow/green fabric along with the other samples. This worked out perfect with the look I wanted. The person who requested the tote bag wanted sunflowers and a pocket on the front with a sunflower. I hope this works. I guess there's a first time for everything right? I had a difficult time with it, but I think the outcome came out ok. This was my own creation. I figured the measurements with the help of my husband. He gave me the idea to wrap the straps from top to bottom.

I feel like I'm becoming the "bag lady" since I've been making all these quilted tote bags that people are requesting. This was requested by a guy at work for his sister, he had already bought 2 prior. All fabrics are 100% cotton. I used warm & natural batting. You can find the directions which they call the recipe over at the Moda Bake Shop which is called the Charming Handbag.

I took a break from sewing all week and decided to start last night on another tote bag. This bag was requested by a lady also name Connie and wanted blues and browns. All fabrics are 100% cotton. I quilted it and used warm & natural batting as well as a plastic placement (cut to size of course) for the bottom of the bag, made a sleeve and sewed it. I decided to add pockets so I made 4....easy peasy, just time consuming.

This quilted tote was made by request using blacks, pinks & purples. I'm hoping this would be ok since there's no white, I couldn't make the white work with this particular patchwork. I think it came out pretty cool. I still have 4 more patchwork totes to make. While I was at Wal-Mart yesterday for Easter shopping, I found these plastic placements...I thought those would be perfect for the bottom of the tote bags. I bought lots of them at only $1.00 each-I made a sleeve, cut to size and insert the plastic and sewed along the 2 sides. Perfect. All fabrics are 100% cotton and I used Warm & Natural batting.

After finishing the previous butterfly tote bag, I had orders to make 2 more. I didn't have enough of the butterfly fabric to make 2 totes, looking all over town and found something similar at Creative Needle and it worked out perfect. It has gold around the wings as well as the rainbow colored fabric as gold in it too. All fabrics are 100% cottons and the inside is Warm & Natural batting. I added the plastic piece for the bottom, made a sleeve and stitched directly onto the bottom of the quilted side of the tote. I got that idea from Nicole Mallalieu tips on bag making. Here's the link.
